With the increasing density of railway networks, sleeper replacement, a basic maintenance operation, is facing the dual challenges of efficiency and flexibility. Traditional construction methods are limited by the clumsiness of heavy equipment and the tediousness of manual operation, and the reality of complex terrain and short construction windows makes many engineering teams feel more stressed. The sleeper replacement machine launched by PESCO has redefined the operation mode in this field with innovative design thinking.
Design philosophy of simplifying complexity
Based on the concept of “lightweight integration”, PESCO engineers chose small and medium-sized excavators as the transformation base, and groundbreakingly integrated the functional modules such as grabbing, handling, and positioning required for sleeper replacement. The equipment retains the flexible steering characteristics of the excavator, but can walk smoothly on the rails through a special guide wheel system, perfectly solving the problem of equipment entry in narrow tunnels, mountain bends and other scenes.
Its core value lies in the rapid switching of functional modules – the front-end mechanical arm can be equipped with different fixtures according to needs, which can not only accurately grasp the damaged sleepers, but also simultaneously complete the ballast cleaning and new sleeper calibration. This “one machine for multiple uses” feature enables a single device to cover the operating range of multiple traditional machines, greatly simplifying the construction process.
Collaborative empowerment of intelligent systems
The intelligent hydraulic system carried by the equipment is the key to efficient operation. The front and rear independent hydraulic circuits have clear division of labor: one group drives the mechanical arm to complete fine operations, and the other group controls the walking and braking systems. The two achieve millisecond-level response coordination through the central controller. The operator can monitor the status of the equipment through a visual interface in the cockpit. When encountering complex road conditions, the system will automatically adjust the output power to ensure operational stability.
What is more noteworthy is its adaptive ability. Whether it is standard gauge or special narrow gauge, the equipment can adapt to different track specifications through a quick adjustment device; the special texture design on the surface of the steel wheel allows it to maintain reliable grip in severe weather such as rain and snow. This all-weather operation capability makes railway maintenance no longer restricted by seasons and climate.
The balance between safety and efficiency
PESCO always implements the concept of “people-oriented safety” in its design. The equipment is equipped with multiple protection mechanisms: the hydraulic system has a built-in overload protection device that can automatically identify abnormal pressure fluctuations; the emergency brake module adopts a redundant design, which can quickly lock the equipment even in the event of a sudden power outage. At the same time, the optional remote control function allows the operator to accurately command from a safe distance, which is particularly suitable for high-risk scenarios such as tunnel rescue.
In terms of efficiency improvement, the equipment realizes a full-process mechanized closed loop – from removing old sleepers, tidying up the roadbed to positioning new sleepers in one go. Compared with traditional manual operations, its advantages are particularly prominent in the “night skylight period” of urban subways: within a limited construction time, the equipment can continuously replace hundreds of meters of sleepers, and the noise control fully meets the municipal environmental protection requirements.
